Genetic carrier screening gives individuals and couples information about their chance of having a child with an inherited genetic condition, such as cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis mainly affects the lungs and is one of the most common inherited conditions in the general population.

VCGS offers cystic fibrosis carrier screening and genetic counselling, to individuals and couples who are considering or are in early pregnancy. With a doctor’s referral, the test can be performed using a blood or saliva sample, and is easy to order online. If you have a close family history of cystic fibrosis, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

For more information, please watch a short video (produced by Cystic Fibrosis Community Care) featuring Dan and Dani from the TV show The Block, or contact a VCGS genetics expert at [email protected] or 1300 118 247.

VCGS is proud to support and work in partnership with Cystic Fibrosis Community Care to raise awareness and improve access to genetic carrier screening. This collaboration ensures individuals and families considering or undergoing screening have access to high quality information and support. Find out more at cfcc.org.au
